Why Your Donation Matters

The Carrie Dickerson Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation whose purpose from its inception has been to carry on the work of Oklahoma's dedicated grassroots hero, and to keep the history of her work alive. Our mission is to follow Carrie's example to help Oklahoma become an innovator in developing clean, safe, renewable energy, and to promote and inform the public about sustainable, economically responsible, nuclear free alternative energy resources for our region, the nation and the planet. We are dedicated to the soft path which Carrie walked, to protect and preserve the natural environment.

We are also acutely aware that clean air, water, and food are basic human rights and must be protected and ensured. Our goals include community action, legislative awareness, hosting public forums to share vital information, and supporting kindred organizations on the front lines in the important work of defending the environment from destruction and reckless waste. The Foundation encourages truly safe and renewable resources such as wind power and solar energy, as well as increased efficiency and most importantly, conservation.

It has become more evident as the climate crises deepen that the knowledge of a nuclear plant to be built in Oklahoma, and a citizens' group that actually prevented that from happening, is disappearing. If we do not know our history, we do not know what to guard against, or what we are truly capable of. The Foundation has become convinced that a documentary about Carrie's story and the successful fight against Black Fox is eminently necessary. This is a worthy educational goal. We have begun research and information gathering, which has its preview in the short film we have just finished for Earth Day 2021 on our videos page.

We also have the responsibility of caring for some of Carrie's treasures, curating some of her work, and making her books available to those who would like to obtain them. We are planning to reprint her wind book, "Harvesting The Wind: Fourteen Centuries of Wind Power" in a format that will allow us to donate it to school libraries throughout the state, as well as public libraries. Your generous support will help us carry on the work of doing the right thing. At this point in time, there are no paid positions within the foundation; all work is on a volunteer basis. We will be sharing the expense of producing and promoting each year's Earth Day Festival with the other members of the OK Earth Coalition. We will appreciate any amount you are able to donate and your gift is tax deductible. Thank you so much for your belief in our work and your generous hearts.
